FAQ
Common questions before booking work or ordering engine services.
The FAQ page helps customers understand warranty, deposits, turnaround, shipping, running-in guidance and the booking process before committing to repair or reconditioning work.
What warranties do you offer?
For service and repair work, all newly replaced parts and labour include a 12-month return-to-base warranty. For reconditioned engines, the standard cover is a 6-month or 10,000-mile return-to-base warranty. This can be extended to 12 months or 12,000 miles on qualifying gold standard engine builds. Used parts carry a 30-day warranty.
Do I need to pay upfront or leave a deposit?
No. We do not normally ask for upfront payment or a deposit for workshop jobs. Payment is made when you inspect and collect your engine or vehicle. For shipped items, payment is required before the shipment date.
Does a reconditioned engine need special running-in?
Yes. Reconditioned engines need to be worn in carefully. Keep the revs as low as possible during the early running-in period, check the oil and coolant levels daily for the first week, and complete an oil and oil filter service after 1,000 miles to validate the warranty.
Do you offer third-party labour warranty claims if I live far away?
No, not unless this has been agreed in advance by a senior manager. All warranties are return to base at the customer’s cost. If we supply and fit the engine ourselves, the return-to-base warranty covers parts and labour. If you buy an engine from us and have another garage fit it, you have product warranty cover only and we do not pay third-party labour charges.
Do you do MOT tests?
We use a third-party MOT test centre for MOT work. GB Engines can carry out a pre-MOT inspection and complete the preparation work needed before the test.
Can you recondition older car engines?
We do not specialise in classic cars, although we may be able to point you towards trusted contacts who do. Our lower-cost reconditioned engine work usually starts from around £2,300, so for lower-value vehicles a good used engine can sometimes be the more sensible route.
Do you ship overseas?
No. Overseas shipping is not currently offered.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept debit card, bank transfer, cash and credit card. Credit card payments may be subject to an admin fee because they are processed through a third-party payment provider.
Can I visit and speak to someone before booking?
Yes. Call us in advance and we can arrange a visit to the workshop so you can speak to the team before committing to work.
Can you collect my vehicle or engine?
Yes. We use third-party transport firms for suitable collection jobs. We can also discuss workshop drop-off, pallet collection and local arrangements depending on the type of job.
Where is the workshop and what are your opening times?
Our workshop address is Head office, The Maltings, East Tyndall Street, Cardiff CF23 5EY. The workshop is located opposite the Maltings Building. Opening times are Mon - Sat, 10am - 7pm.
